Pakistan cricket faces marital controversies - Part I

April 8th 2010 09:56
As if the on-field and off the field, but cricket-related, controversies were not enough for the Pakistani cricketers, two of their breed are now involved in 'Miss'-matches of a different kind.

For starters, Shoaib Malik was involved in 'triangular' series of events with the announcement that he was going to marry the Indian tennis star, Sania Mirza. (she is now ranked 100th in the world, yet, she continues with her star status!).

Out popped an Ayesha Siddiqui and claimed that Malik had married her some years back and could not marry someone else without divorcing her. What followed was more surprising.

For one, Shoaib denied he knew her. Then, he denied marrying her. Then, he changed his stance to marrying her but not knowing he had married her (yeah!). And the last we heard was that not only had he acknowledged marrying her, but also giving her a divorce, something that she wanted from the very beginning.

And all through this ordeal, he kept reiterating that Sania and her folks back home knew the truth. In that case, why not give the divorce and end the matter in the first place itself!
