Trust Shane Warne to wake up 12 years on.
The Shane Warne-Sachin Tendulkar battles are well chronicled. Both had had the better of the other on one or the other occasion, but, the summer of 1998 was really hot. In fact, too hot for Warne to handle, as he was plundered by Tendulkar for a million runs.
There were many an occasion when Warne had no clue where to bowl to the little man, such was his purple patch. As didn't the other bowlers, as Tendulkar went from strength to strength, in a period of around four months, where everything that he touched turned to gold.
The exasperation culminated into a very famous, and oft-repeated statement, "I had nightmares of Tendulkar jumping down the wicket and whacking over my head" or one of its variation.
Talking to a media gathering at a promotional event yesterday, Warne seems to have laid the ghosts of that statement to rest, by saying that he never said that! It was a figment of somebody's imagination. He also added that he was not scared of anyone!
Now, one hopes that 12 years on, he does not turn back on his "Pathan's innings was the best ever that I have seen in my life!"
