This has to be the best post-match conference that I have heard in my 20 years of following cricket.
Diplomacy thrown a kitchen sink at. Straight talk was as non-existent as a Kings XI Punjab win. Probably, it was Sehwag in spirits.
Only a couple of days, I had blogged about how the BCCI should read between the lines of what Gambhir says. That, was in some other context.
Now, after what Gambhir spoke about Rajasthan at the post match conference, the BCCI will seriously need to appoint guys to read between the lines. And if they found an alternative meaning to "Rajasthan is an ordinary side", I would like to know as well.
Thankfully, Mr Modi spotted the "Public criticism of, or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in a Match or any Player, Team Official, Match Official or Team participating in any Match, irrespective of when such criticism or inappropriate is made" and charged him with exactly the same. While he was not jailed for making such utterances, he was handed over a reprimand all the same, with Modi charging him with a Level One offence.
Rather surprisingly, a Level One offence has a maximum penalty of 50% of the match fee associated with it, and the IPL decided to let go of the opportunity to rake in the money!
It was a spicy game, the one between Delhi and Rajasthan, which also saw Dinesh Karthik and Shane Warne get into a rift with each other.
