This ax comes as no surprise. After all, being out of international cricket for four years was bound to take toll on Damien Martyn.
What was surprising was that Martyn was even picked for the tournament in the first place by Rajasthan Royals. Agreed that he was to cost not more than $100,000, in a tournament, where most of the other players chosen were worth more than $300,000, but is the price of the player the only criteria that the Royals seem to be considering?
And now that they had chosen Martyn, wouldn't it make more sense to continue with Martyn for at least 2-3 more games before deciding to do away with him, rather than give him an opportunity and pack his bags up?
Martyn was graceful enough to accept on his website that he knew that professional sports was played this way and had no complains about the decision; starting his post by saying, "By the time you read this, I will be hom!e"
Wonder what was Shane Warne thinking when he selected Martyn for the tournament!
